After a whole summer of planning the content and filming introduction videos, the YouTube channel is finally here !
It hasn’t quite gone as planned, since Google’s verifications have changed quite a bit since I started my French channel in 2018, but both the channel and introduction videos are now live.
What is the channel about ?
Florie’s Café is a quiet space for delightful stories to get lost in and find delight with.
In other words, this is a BookTube channel about the books of my taste. I have planned traditional book content such as regular wrap-ups of what I’ve read lately, themed videos about a certain genre or theme, and even reading vlogs, if I find some time to film and edit them.
I have more ideas as well, around the intersection of slowing down, welcoming reading into our lives, owning our reading taste and allowing ourselves to be delighted by what we read, even if the books aren’t quite prestigious or polite enough. But that will depend on future ideas and inspirations, as well as the time I can devote to this second channel, let’s be honest.
Finally, I might also talk about writing the books of my heart on the channel. I’ll provide high level updates during the wrap-ups and we’ll see if and how I might talk about my own fiction, creative life and more in video format as I start publishing my first books in English in 2027.
Also, it is likely that I’ll occasionally mention journaling and stationery, since it is my other special interest at the moment. This is a topic I broach more often on the French channel, but I might mention my journals on this one as well, depending on how curious you are about them.
Why create a new YouTube channel in English ?
I explain my overall idea and goals in the welcome video, but basically, my first motivation is that I want to yap about the books that I love reading.
I decided to make it an English channel because I mainly read in that language and many of the books I read aren’t published in French, so I’m always a bit frustrated when I share those with my French audience, some of whom may not read in English.
Another major reason is that I’d like to find people who like the same type of books that I do (imaginative, sci-fi/fantasy adult books which are fun, entertaining and delightful).
These days, most of the book recommendations I get are from algorithms, may it be the Goodreads “similar books” or from the Storygraph. But all the books I’ve ended up really liking came from human recommendations — may it be friends, booktubers, etc.
However, my friends are all French and I haven’t found any booktuber who has quite the same reading taste as I do, so even though I do get some recommendations here and there from the ones I follow.
That is why I have decided to take my destiny into my own hands and create my own channel, hoping to gather a community of people with similar reading tastes, so we can recommend each other delightful reads.
All this to say, Florie’s Café is now up, with a few introduction videos available for you to check out the type of content I’ll publish there. From now on, I intend to publish one to two videos a month on the channel, hoping I’ll have time to do so.
If you do have similar reading taste as me and enjoy the content of the channel, please don’t hesitate to let me know what kind of videos you’d be interested in watching.
In the meantime, thank you for being here, until next time !
Florie
